Magic mushrooms, scientifically known as psilocybin mushrooms, are a group of fungi that contain the psychoactive compounds psilocybin and psilocin. These substances induce hallucinations and altered states of consciousness when ingested. The most potent species belong to the genus Psilocybe, including P. azurescens, P. semilanceata, and P. cyanescens. However, psilocybin has also been identified in various other genera such as Panaeolus, Inocybe, and others.
